In 17th century Korea, King Injo takes refuge in the mountains to evade capture by the rising Qing dynasty.

The Qing dynasty launches a surprise attack on Joseon in 1636, forcing King Injo and his loyalists, including Choi Myung-kil and Kim Sang-hun, to take refuge in the mountain stronghold of Namhansanseong.
