On his 21st birthday, Max, who has attempted suicide eight times, is sent back to an asylum. There, he falls in love with Grace, a fellow suicidal patient who treats a teddy bear as her child. Max tries to help Grace find reasons to live, proposing and marrying her, and taking her on a journey to find cures for her depression, including nature, family, and spiritual healers. Despite his efforts, Grace's demons prove too strong, and Max is left feeling hopeless, wondering if he'll ever find the peace they both seek.
