Unemployed actor Richard Gilbert turns to cab driving to support himself and his daughter, Toni. His friend Boris convinces Russian café owners to fund his play, "The Road To Siberia", with Richard as the lead. When the play fails, Richard becomes a cab driver, but his girlfriend Florence helps him land a new lead role in a play. The leading lady, Diana, falls for Richard, unaware he's a widower with a child.
