A wealthy jailor named Dilip lives with his wife Kamal and daughter Bali. When Kamal feels neglected, she starts an affair with Dr. Ramesh, causing Dilip to become disapproving and instruct her to stay indoors. In retaliation, Kamal elopes with Ramesh, and Dilip tells Bali her mother has died. The couple is shunned by the community and later involved in a car accident, leaving Ramesh blind and Kamal with a disfigured cheek. Dilip finds Kamal, brings her home, and locks her away, changing his behavior to become oppressive. The story takes a turn when Bali discovers her mother is still alive and insists on seeing her.
