In 18th century France, a cunning widow and her lover make a wager on the morality of a newlywed woman, with the lover, Valmont, challenging himself to corrupt her despite her noble character. If successful, he'll gain control over his own lover. But as he pursues the married woman, Valmont finds himself unexpectedly smitten.
