In the Missouri hills, a tradition of night fox hunts by local hounds is disrupted when Jacob Terry introduces sheep and a woven wire fence to his land. The neighbors are upset as the dogs would avoid harming the sheep but could be injured by the fence at night. Jacob threatens to shoot any dogs or people found on his property. Meanwhile, Benjy Davis's love for Camden Terry creates tension, and things escalate when Bugle Ann, a prized hound, goes missing, leading both sides to take up arms in a deadly feud.
