Casey Owens, a young mechanic, creates a turbine car engine design, aiming to set a new land-speed record. Wealthy playboy Stanford Rogers hires Casey to build a car for him to attempt the record. However, after an unsuccessful test run, Rogers abandons the project. Casey and his friend Chuck, an engineering student, buy the wrecked car and salvage the turbine engine. They fix it and install it in a new car, entering it in the Tri-State Endurance Race. Meanwhile, Casey falls for Chuck's sister Eadie.
