Italian national Pasqualino Frafuso, a charming but self-absorbed layabout, goes AWOL from military service and meets another AWOL soldier, Francesco. They assume they're in Germany and Pasqualino shares his story of making questionable decisions to avoid trouble, including accidentally killing his sister's pimp and faking insanity. Captured by the Germans, Pasqualino and Francesco are sent to a POW camp where Pasqualino resorts to seducing the cruel female commandant to survive.
