Fernando Rey, a renowned Spanish movie actor, was born Fernando Casado D'Arambillet on September 10, 1917, in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain, as the son of Colonel Casado Veiga. Initially, the young Fernando had plans to pursue a career in architecture, but the Spanish Civil War, which erupted in 1936, interrupted his studies, and he found employment as a movie extra. He adopted the stage name "Fernando Rey" at the beginning of his acting career, which translates to "Fernando King" in English.
