Olga Benário, a German-born woman, was arrested and sent to Nazi Germany after being married to Brazilian communist leader Luís Carlos Prestes during Getúlio Vargas' dictatorship. She was eventually killed in a concentration camp. However, after World War II started, Vargas changed his stance and supported the Allies.
