A confidence man convinces a wealthy investor to fund an invention that turns water into gasoline, enlisting the help of a former promoter who is determined to avoid prison. As the scam gains momentum, a stenographer becomes convinced of the product's legitimacy and invests her own money. However, when the inventor disappears and the formula is lost, the company teeters on the brink of bankruptcy. Just as all hope seems lost, the inventor reappears, saving the day and allowing the company to profit from the formula.
