Zelma O'Neal was a multifaceted performer who excelled in various genres, including singing, dancing, and comedy. Her most notable achievements were on the Broadway stage, where she made a lasting impact with her unique talents.

One of her most significant accomplishments was originating the role of Flo in the 1927 production of Good News, both in New York and London. Her portrayal of the character was memorable, and her performance of the iconic Varsity Drag remains a highlight of the show.

O'Neal's next major success came with the 1929 musical comedy Follow Through, where she originated the song "Button Up Your Overcoat." The song became a signature tune for her, and she continued to perform it throughout her career.

In addition to her stage work, O'Neal also appeared in several films, including Follow Thru (1930),Give Her a Ring (1934),Freedom of the Seas (1934),and Mister Cinders (1935). Her offbeat singing style, which set her apart from other performers of her time, was a defining characteristic of her work.
