Zachary Oberzan was a founding member of the theater collective Nature Theater of Oklahoma, based in New York City. He collaborated and performed in numerous productions with the company, including POETICS: A BALLET BRUT, the Obie-winning NO DICE, and the one-man show RAMBO SOLO, which contributed to the company's international fame.
Oberzan's first feature film, FLOODING WITH LOVE FOR THE KID, is a one-man cinematic war shot and edited entirely by him in his 220 square foot Manhattan apartment. The film, made for $96, was created in 2007 and never intended for public viewing, but was discovered by the Film Anthology Archives in NYC, received a lengthy run, and continues to screen internationally in cinemas, theaters, art institutes, and film festivals. The film has been celebrated in high-minded film publications.
Oberzan's theater/film hybrid, YOUR BROTHER. REMEMBER?, premiered in May 2010 at Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels and has been performed in over fifty cities worldwide. A stand-alone film version had its cinematic premiere in New York City in 2012, followed by a run and highly enthusiastic praise.
His next project, TELL ME LOVE IS REAL, a theater/film/musical hybrid, premiered in October 2013 at deSingel Antwerp, toured internationally, and also became a stand-alone film, premiering in Copenhagen in 2016. Oberzan's most recent cinematic/live theater/musical hybrid, THE GREAT PRETENDER, premiered in DeSingel, Antwerp as a one-man show with two backup singers. The show toured Europe for a year and a half, then as a stand-alone film, premiered in Los Angeles in May 2019 to critical acclaim.
In addition to his work with Nature Theater of Oklahoma, Oberzan has performed with The Wooster Group and Richard Foreman, and has released two albums of original songs, including his most recent album, Athletes of Romance.
