Zachary James is a multifaceted artist, boasting a remarkable career as a stage and screen actor, recording artist, and international opera singer, hailing from Spring Hill, Florida.
He has achieved immense recognition, including a 2022 Grammy Award win, and has been honored with numerous accolades, such as Vocalist of the Decade and Performer of the Decade by BroadwayWorld, Breakout Artist of the Year by Verismo Magazine, Most Innovative Artist by Classical Post, and top 30 most influential LGBTQ+ artists by OperaWire.
Zachary's academic background includes a degree in Musical Theatre from Ithaca College, which paved the way for his Broadway debut in Coram Boy at the Imperial Theatre. He went on to play Thomas Hassinger in the original cast of the Tony Award-winning production of South Pacific at Lincoln Center and created the role of Lurch in the Broadway musical of The Addams Family.
His television debut was a notable one, as he appeared opposite Tina Fey and Steve Martin as Carl, a Federal Agent, on the hit show 30 Rock. Meanwhile, his professional operatic debut came in 2013, when Philip Glass wrote the role of Abraham Lincoln for him in the world premiere of The Perfect American at the Teatro Real in Madrid.
Zachary has since revived this role on the West End for English National Opera and in Brisbane for Opera Queensland. He created the role of Amenhotep in the Olivier Award-winning production of Akhnaten on the West End for English National Opera, a role he revived for The Metropolitan Opera and Los Angeles Opera.
The performance was broadcast live from The Metropolitan Opera in 2019, reaching movie theaters worldwide. Zachary has had the privilege of singing with top orchestras and opera companies around the world and has played John Claggart in the Emmy Award-winning broadcast of Billy Budd, filmed live from Des Moines Metro Opera for PBS.
In addition to his opera work, Zachary has released his debut visual album, Call Out, which has been showcased in thirty film festivals worldwide and was honored at the 2020 Classical Music Digital Awards in London.
