Zach Galifianakis was born in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, a charming town in the heart of the Tar Heel State, to Mary Frances Cashion, a community arts center owner, and Harry Galifianakis, a heating oil vendor. His father's ancestry can be traced back to Greece, while his mother's roots are predominantly English and Scottish. Despite his strong academic background, Zach's college journey was marked by a close call, as he narrowly missed passing his final class by a single point. This near-miss led him to make the bold decision to relocate to New York City, where he would go on to hone his unique brand of humor in the unlikeliest of places - the back of a hamburger joint in Times Square. As his stand-up career gained momentum, Zach took to the road, performing in coffee shops and universities across the country.
After over a decade of honing his craft and making appearances on television and in film, Zach's big break came with his starring role as Alan Garner in the blockbuster comedy, The Hangover (2009). This critical and commercial success was followed by a string of notable roles in films such as G-Force (2009),Up in the Air (2009),Youth in Revolt (2009),Dinner for Schmucks (2010),It's Kind of a Funny Story (2010),Due Date (2010),The Campaign (2012),Puss in Boots (2011),The Hangover Part II (2011),The Hangover Part III (2013),Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014),Masterminds (2015),and Keeping Up with the Joneses (2016).
