Biography

Yojiro Takita, a Japanese film director, was born in Takaoka, Toyama, and gained international recognition following the release of his film "Okuribito" (also known as "Departures"),which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2009.

Prior to his success, Takita had started his directorial career in the 1980s, focusing on the "chikan" series, which depicted scenes of groping in public settings such as trains. He continued to work within the "ping eiga" adult sub-genre, completing the Serial Rape thriller in 1983.

In addition to his work in the adult sub-genre, Takita also explored comedy and television serials, and at the turn of the century, he directed the mainstream Onmyoji.
