As a young man, Winfield graduated from Fullerton Union High School in Fullerton, California, in 1961, marking the beginning of his journey towards a life of adventure and achievement. His academic pursuits led him to the University of California, Los Angeles, where he made a name for himself as an All-American in Swimming and Water Polo, as well as a member of the esteemed Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
Winfield's impressive credentials were complemented by his diverse professional endeavors. He worked as a lifeguard in the popular beach town of Huntington Beach, California, and also ventured into the world of advertising as a print model.
