Biography

Wei-Yi Lin was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, where she developed a strong foundation in both Chinese and English, allowing her to excel in multiple languages.

Wei-Yi's introduction to the world of drama, theatre, and acting came through her involvement with the Drama and Theatre Department at National Taiwan University. This early exposure sparked her passion for the craft, and she went on to pursue a professional career in the theatre field after graduation.

As she gained recognition among her peers, Wei-Yi began to realize the importance of formal training in achieving her artistic ambitions. Under the guidance of a mentor, she made the bold decision to leave Taiwan and pursue a master's degree in acting at Columbia University in the United States.

Upon completing her MFA, Wei-Yi established herself as a talented and versatile actress, working in both theatre and film in New York City. Her hard work and dedication paid off when she gained union status just three years after graduation, allowing her to collaborate with some of the world's most renowned artists.

Wei-Yi's breakthrough came in 2015 when she was invited to participate in the prestigious Sundance Directors Lab as Yang Meng. This opportunity marked a turning point in her career, and she went on to receive numerous accolades, including nominations for Best Actress in a Theatre Festival in Downtown NYC, and wins for Best Acting in Short Films at the Asian Film Festival in Dallas, and Best Acting in the LA Movie Awards.

In addition to her film work, Wei-Yi has also had the privilege of collaborating with prominent directors, including Catherine Hardwicke on a Lady Gaga PSA that was nominated for an Academy Award. Her other notable projects include working with Enid Zenteils and Paola Mendoza.

Wei-Yi's recent short film, MA-Warner Bros., was selected for the Tribeca Film Festival in 2017, and her first feature film in Taiwan, The Last Painting, competed in the Rotterdam International Film Festival in the same year. In this film, she played a supporting lead role.

Today, Wei-Yi splits her time between New York City, Los Angeles, and Taiwan, where she is based. She is also the proud owner of a 10-year-old bull terrier.
