Warren Leight is a renowned writer and showrunner, currently at the helm of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit's historic 21st season. Prior to this, he developed innovative projects for Sony's television division and served as showrunner and Executive Producer of the NBC drama, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, from 2011 to 2016, earning numerous accolades including Imagen, NAACP, and PRISM Awards.
In addition to his television work, Leight has also helmed notable projects such as HBO's Peabody Award-winning In Treatment, the FX drama Lights Out, and the Edgar-winning Law and Order: Criminal Intent. His writing and directing credits include the film "The Night We Never Met" and the documentary "Before the Nickelodeon," which premiered at the New York Film Festival.
As a playwright, Leight's work has garnered significant recognition, including the 1999 Tony Award for Best Play for his play "Side Man," which was also a Pulitzer Prize Finalist. His other notable plays include "No Foreigners Beyond This Point," which earned a Drama Desk nomination, as well as "Home Front," "Fame Takes a Holiday," "Glimmer, Glimmer and Shine," and "The Loop."
Leight has also written the book for the musical "Mayor," which received a Drama Desk nomination, and co-written the book for "Leap of Faith," earning a Tony Award nomination. His two collections of one-acts, "Dark, No Sugar" and "Stray Cats," have been published by DPS.
In addition to his writing and producing credits, Leight has contributed numerous articles and humor pieces to various publications, including the International Herald Tribune, Rolling Stone, Village Voice, Mademoiselle, National Lampoon, and BOMB magazine.
As a respected industry figure, Leight has held the position of President of The Writer's Guild of America, East, and currently serves on the council of the Dramatists' Guild. He is also an ardent supporter of The 24 Hour Plays.
Leight holds a degree from Stanford University and resides in New York City with his wife and daughters.
