Biography

Here is the biography of Wanda Hendrix:

Wanda Hendrix was born Dixie Wanda Hendrix in Jacksonville, Florida, to Max Sylvester Hendrix, a logging camp boss, and his wife Mary Bailley. She was involved in her hometown's little theater group, where she was "discovered" by a talent agent and signed with Warner Bros. Her family moved to California, where she was immediately featured in featured roles in films such as Confidential Agent (1945),Nora Prentiss (1947),and Ride the Pink Horse (1947).

Wanda signed with Paramount and earned one of her best film roles in Ride the Pink Horse, which sparked talk of an Oscar nomination. She appeared in other films, including Miss Tatlock's Millions (1948),My Own True Love (1949),and Sierra (1950),opposite her husband, decorated WWII hero Audie Murphy.

However, the marriage was tumultuous, with Audie suffering from flashbacks and paranoia due to his war-time experiences, and holding Wanda at gunpoint during violent episodes. The frightened woman left him after seven months and divorced him soon after, charging him with mental cruelty.

The negative publicity surrounding their stormy marriage did little to enhance Wanda's status in Hollywood, and her career waned. She retired from acting in 1954 to marry millionaire playboy James L. Stack, Jr., brother of actor Robert Stack. However, the marriage was short-lived, and the couple divorced in 1958.

Wanda made a comeback on stage, film, and TV, but experienced little progression. She appeared in a few films, including Captain Carey, U.S.A. (1949),The Highwayman (1951),and Highway Dragnet (1954),before retiring again. She married a third time, to oil company executive Steve La Monte, in 1969, but the marriage ended in divorce in 1980.

Wanda Hendrix died shortly after her third divorce, at the age of 52, due to double pneumonia in Los Angeles. She had no children.
