Wamiqa Gabbi is an Indian actress who has made a significant impact in the film industry by appearing in a diverse range of Punjabi, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu films.
Born into a Punjabi family, Gabbi's father is a notable Hindi and Punjabi novelist, and her upbringing has undoubtedly played a significant role in shaping her passion for the performing arts. She completed her education at St. Xavier's School and graduated from D.A.V College in Chandigarh.
Gabbi made her acting debut in the Hindi film Jab We Met (2007),where she played one of Geet's (Kareena Kapoor) cousins. Her breakthrough role came with the Punjabi movie Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22 (2013),alongside co-stars Yo Yo Honey Singh and Amrinder Gill, for which she received a nomination for the best supporting actress at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards.
Over the years, Gabbi has continued to feature in numerous Punjabi films, including Ishq Brandy (2014),Nikka Zaildar 2 (2017),Parahuna (2018),Dil Diyan Gallan (2019),and Nikka Zaildar 3 (2019).
Gabbi's foray into South Indian cinema began with her lead role in the Telugu film Bhale Manchi Roju (2015),followed by the Tamil film Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam (2016) and the Malayalam film Godha (2017) with Tovino Thomas. Her performance in Godha earned her the best debut actress award at the Flowers Indian Film Awards in 2018.
In 2017, Gabbi bagged the Tamil film Iravaakaalam, directed by Ashwin Saravanan and starring Sshivada and S.J. Suryah. She also appeared alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mamta Mohandas in the 2019 film 9.
In 2021, Gabbi made a cameo appearance in the movie '83, playing the role of Annu Lal, Madan Lal's wife. The following year, she appeared in the Punjabi film Kali Jotta (2023) and a short film titled Fursat (2023) with Ishaan Khatter, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.
In addition to her film career, Gabbi has also ventured into web series, starring in Eclipse (2021) on Hotstar, Mai (2022) on Netflix, and Modern Love Mumbai (2022) on Amazon Prime Video.
