Viva Tattersall, born Vera Tattersall, was a remarkable individual, hailing from London, England, as the second child of Hugh Herbert Tattersall, a distinguished British master mariner, and his wife, Lilian Elizabeth Webb. This notable family boasted several siblings, including Kathryn, Cecil, Honor, Marjorie, who would later become the wife of renowned Australian economist Colin Clarke, and Emma Lilian, who would later be known as Lady Henderson and achieve fame as Emmy Nikis, a French Resistance heroine.
As a talented young actress, Vera Tattersall, who would later become known as Viva, made the bold decision to relocate to the United States in 1920, ultimately settling in the vibrant city of New York. During this time, she collaborated with actor Sidney Toler, who would also become her future husband, on several plays.
