Here is the biography of Vijayakanth:
Vijayakanth, affectionately known as 'Puratchi Kalaignar' and 'Captain' by his fans and well-wishers, faced numerous challenges and unfriendly situations before achieving fame and popularity in the Tamil film industry. Born on August 25th in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, his original name was Vijayaraj, and his parents were Azhagarsamy-Andal. Tragedy struck when Vijayakanth was just one year old, as his mother Andal passed away. His parents had three more children, and to bring up the one-year-old baby Vijayakanth, his father married Rukmani as his second wife, resulting in a joint family with seven children.
Vijayakanth's early education took place in various schools, including M.C. High School and Devakottai school. Due to his responsibilities in his father's rice-mill business, he could not pursue his studies beyond 11th standard. During this period, he had close friends, including A. Se. Ibrahim Rawther, who would later become a leading film producer.
Vijayakanth's entry into the film industry was through a film distribution company, Sena's Films, where he was noticed by Marsook, the proprietor-distributor. Despite being dropped from his first film, "Yen Kelvikku Yenna Pathil?", Vijayakanth vowed to make a comeback and work hard to achieve success. He then met M.A. Kaja, who introduced him to the film "Inikkum Ilamai", his first acting role.
Vijayakanth went on to act in several films, including "Thooraththu Idi Muzhakkam", "Neerottam", and "Agal Vilakku", which did not bring great success. However, he did not lose heart and waited for a good opportunity. His breakthrough came with the film "Sattam Oru Iruttarai", produced by Chidambaram and directed by S.A. Chandrasekar.
The film's success led to Vijayakanth being booked for 18 new films, and he continued to work tirelessly in the industry. He has since acted in over 125 films, including "Saatchi", "Ulavuththurai", and "Captain Prabaharan". Vijayakanth has also introduced new faces to the film industry, including Mansoor Alikhan, R.K. Selvamani, and Ilavarasan, and has dubbed his films into Telugu, leading to significant revenue collection.
Throughout his career, Vijayakanth has been guided by the words of Kalaignar Karunanidhi, "Veezhvathu Naamaaga Irunthaalum Vazhvathu Thamizhaaga Irukkattum", and has made it a point to emphasize the importance of Tamil language and culture in his work.
