Vijay Deverakonda was born as Deverakonda Vijay Sai, hailing from a family of farmers in Achampet, Nagarkurnool district, Telangana. He is an Indian actor who primarily works in Telugu cinema.
He studied up to the 10th standard at Sri Sathya Sai Higher Secondary School in Puttaparthi and then attended Little Flower Junior College in Hyderabad for his Intermediate studies. After completing his graduation in commerce, he joined a theatre group called Sutradhar, where he made his stage debut in the play Sherlock Home.
Deverakonda's first film was Nuvvila (2011),a romantic comedy directed by Ravi Babu. He then appeared in supporting roles in films like Life Is Beautiful (2012) and Who is Subramanyam? (2015). He received a Special Jury Award at the Nandi Awards in 2017 for his supporting act in Yevade Subramanyam.
His breakthrough as a leading man came in Pelli Choopulu (2016),a romantic comedy directed by Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam, opposite Ritu Varma. The film won the Filmfare Award for Best Film in 2016 - Telugu and the 64th National Film Awards in 2016 declared it the winner of the Best Feature Film in the Telugu category.
Deverakonda's subsequent lead roles included Srinivasa Ravindra's Dwaraka (2017),a comedy-drama film, and Arjun Reddy (2017),in which he played the title character. His performance in Arjun Reddy received critical acclaim, winning him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in 2018 - Telugu. The film became a box-office success and his performance was listed among the 100 Greatest Performances of the Decade by Film Companion in 2019.
He then appeared in films like Ye Mantram Vesave (2018),Mahanati (2018),Nota (2018),Geetha Govindam (2018),and Taxiwala (2018). His acting in Geetha Govindam (2018) won him the Zee Cine Awards Telugu in 2019 under the Favourite Actor category and the Critics' Choice Best Actor Award at the South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) 2019.
Deverakonda's subsequent films include Dear Comrade (2019),World Famous Lover (2020),and Liger (2022),a bilingual sports action film. He won the Youth Icon South (Male) Award at the South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) in 2022.
He ventured into production in 2019 under the King of the Hill Entertainment banner, producing films likeek Meu Maathrame Chepta (2019) and Pushpaka Vimanam (2021). He ranked 72nd in the 2018 list of Celebrity 100 released by Forbes India and 2nd in 2020's list of The Times Most Desirable Men.
