Vickey Dempsey Burns was born on April 1, 1954, and tragically passed away on March 26, 2024. Her fascination with acting began during her elementary school days, and she dedicated her life to pursuing this passion until the very end.
She attended Sam Houston State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre with a Teaching Certificate in Theatre and English in 1977. This marked the beginning of her journey in the world of theatre.
In 1984, Vickey tied the knot with her soulmate, Jimmy Burns, a poet, English teacher, and school principal. Together, they welcomed two sons, James in 1989 and Christopher in 1992.
Before devoting herself to her family, Vickey worked as a high school Theatre teacher and junior high English teacher. She later transitioned to a law firm in Houston, where she spent several years honing her skills.
When Vickey left her job to focus on her family, she turned her attention to directing local plays and co-directing musicals at West Conroe Baptist Church in Conroe. This marked a significant shift in her priorities, as she sought to balance her work and family life.
In 1998, Vickey began substitute teaching, a role she would continue until 2023. This allowed her to balance her responsibilities as a mother and caregiver, particularly after her husband Jimmy suffered a stroke in 2005.
After Jimmy's passing in 2013, Vickey was confronted with the harsh reality of life's brevity. She decided to pursue her long-held dream of acting in movies, landing roles in several small films, including "Paying Dues," "Little Adorable," "Open Waters," "Soulless," "The Jacket," "American Driver," and "Reina of the West."
