Vanya Rose's remarkable journey in the world of theatre and visual arts began at a tender age, with a strong foundation in theatre and visual arts studies. Her early passion for acting led her to collaborate with the esteemed Garrick Players, creating and performing in numerous theatre productions.
At the age of 15, Vanya embarked on formal theatre training under the guidance of renowned Stanislavsky disciple Polina Klimovitskaya. This training served as a springboard for her future pursuits, as she later enrolled at New York University. However, her interests soon shifted towards directing, and she went on to complete her degree at McGill University with first-class honours.
Throughout her academic and professional journey, Vanya received numerous accolades for her directing and stage adaptations. Her extensive training and expertise led her to create multiple theatre productions in Europe before returning to Montreal to pursue a master's degree in theatre directing, generously funded by an FRSC grant for excellence.
During the creation of her thesis production, Vanya's thesis director encouraged her to explore the realm of filmmaking, a path she has continued to follow ever since. Her film, MONTREAL STORIES, is a poetic portrait of her native city, spanning across the 20th century, starring Lise Roy, Gabriel Gascon, Kaniehtiio Horn, and Rebecca Windheim.
Vanya was selected as one of the five directors to participate in the competitive CFC's Directors' Lab. She then went on to complete the film IMPOSSIBLE, starring Tyler Hynes and Charlotte Le Bon. Her short film, AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL, features Hélène Joy and was produced through her production company, time's thievish progress to eternity FILMS.
Vanya's latest film, WOMAN IN CAR, stars Hélène Joy, alongside Liane Balaban, Gabrielle Lazure, Aidan Ritchie, and Anthony Lemke. The film has been screened in numerous film festivals and was recently released in theatres and digitally. The final track of the score, "Lovers are falling", written and performed by Thus Owls, has been nominated for a Canadian Screen Award 2022 for Best Original Song.
