Born in Ft. Lewis, Washington, her early life was marked by a series of relocations, as her family settled on various military bases in Hawaii, Missouri, and Korea before finally establishing a home in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia.

Love's academic pursuits led her to the University of Georgia, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama. During her time at UGA, she was an integral part of the Black Theatrical Ensemble, a student-led drama troupe that allowed her to hone her craft.
