Valerie Spencer is a 2nd generation Los Angeles native with a strong connection to the city's rich entertainment history. Her grandfather, a songwriter, wrote tunes for the iconic cowboy band The Sons of the Pioneers, while her other grandfather, a writer, created content for radio and television before being blacklisted during the Red Scare.
With a degree in Theater Arts from UCLA, Valerie has been a member of Critical Mass Performance Group since 1989, taking part in numerous original productions at prestigious venues such as the Kirk Douglas, South Coast Rep, the Getty Villa, PlayMakers Rep, and Portland Center Stage.
Her film credits include Blink, directed by Michael Apted, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, the indie feature A One Time Thing, and the FXM short, The Housekeeper. Recent short films include The Moment I Was Alone, Rosethorn, and Hair.
Valerie has also appeared in television shows, including The Comeback Kid, a single-camera drama pilot. She has had the unique experience of seeing her image displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum, thanks to her collaborations with video artist Bill Viola.
As a voice-over artist, Valerie has had a diverse range of clients, from hawking avocados to narrating documentaries about naked mole rats for Disney. She has also provided voices for video games, including Desperate Housewives, and has looped over obscenities in Bordello of Blood.
Valerie considers her two years as Carol Burnett's acting stand-in to be the best comedy training she's received. With a musical ear, she can easily learn and perform foreign dialects and sing a mean song.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Valerie is an accomplished seamstress, having created opera costumes for renowned singers Luciano Pavarotti and Plácido Domingo, Halloween costumes for her now-adult daughter, and numerous pillows.
Valerie is passionate about working with like-minded individuals who share her commitment to transformational storytelling and feels a deep sense of responsibility to give voice to the voiceless and to use her platform to raise awareness about pressing social issues.
