Biography of Renato Altamura:
Renato Altamura, a renowned actor, was born and raised in Rome, Italy, to a military officer. He was educated at the prestigious Liceo Classico, where he studied Latin, history, literature, and philosophy. After graduating, Altamura began his career as a part-time animator and freelance journalist, also doing voice acting on radio before making his motion picture debut in 1954.
He initially appeared on stage seven years later in a production of Sacco and Vanzetti, co-starring with Gian Maria Volontè. On screen, Altamura often played men with gravitas, such as aristocrats, senators, governors, priests, scientists, and bankers. He also used his nom de plume, 'Tor Altmayer', on several occasions.
Altamura frequently co-starred with international actors, including Gordon Mitchell, Gordon Scott, Lex Barker, Guy Madison, Pierre Brice, and Mark Forest, in a slew of films. Some of his notable roles include Assur in Hercules and the Tyrants of Babylon (1964),Seneca in the comedic Le calde notti di Poppea (1969),chief of police Ostermeyer in the giallo thriller A Black Veil for Lisa (1968),and 'Peter' in the Italo-western Blood for a Silver Dollar (1965).
In his later years, Altamura became active as a documentary filmmaker, earning a prize at the Salerno Film Festival in the early 1970s for his documentary Itinerario differente.
