Biography

Tracy Newman is a trailblazing artist, having made a profound impact on the entertainment industry as a founding member of The Groundlings Improv Theatre, a prestigious institution that has been a primary breeding ground for Saturday Night Live talent. As a pioneering TV writer and producer, Newman embarked on a successful career in 1990 alongside her then-partner, Jonathan Stark. Their collaborative efforts led to numerous notable projects, including staff positions on esteemed shows such as Cheers, Bob, The Nanny, Ellen, The Drew Carey Show, and Hiller and Diller.

Newman's most notable achievement to date is co-writing the groundbreaking "coming out" episode of Ellen, a landmark moment in television history that earned her both an Emmy and a Peabody award in 1997. This remarkable feat solidified her position as a champion of progressive storytelling and a trailblazer in the television industry.

In 2001, Newman co-created the long-running ABC TV show, According to Jim, cementing her status as a respected and accomplished television writer and producer. However, after retiring from TV writing in 2003, Newman transitioned to a new creative pursuit, becoming a prominent figure in the Los Angeles acoustic folk music scene.

Today, Newman is a full-time singer-songwriter, captivating audiences with her soulful voice and poignant lyrics. She has released several CDs catering to both adult and child audiences, including A Place in the Sun, I Just See You, and That's What Love Can Do to Your Heart for adults, as well as I Can Swing Forever, Shoebox Town, and the upcoming Sing With Me for children.

Newman's dedication to her craft is evident through her tireless efforts to create engaging and age-appropriate content for young children.
