At the tender age of 18, he made the bold decision to enlist in the prestigious Foreign Legion in Morocco, where he remained a prominent figure until the age of 21. Following his stint in the military, he transitioned to the world of theater, debuting professionally in Madrid in 1933 with the esteemed company of Josefina Diaz. Thereafter, he continued to hone his craft by working with a multitude of companies, including Maria Fernanda Ladrón de Guevara, Tarsila Criado, Carmen Echevarria, and many others.
However, the tumultuous backdrop of the Spanish Civil War soon took center stage, and it was during this period that he began to receive film offers for the first time. Despite this newfound opportunity, he remained committed to his theater company, Membrives Lola, and continued to work with them in a continuous capacity.
