Toby Wilkins, the youngest son of renowned playwright and novelist Christopher Wilkins, was born and raised in London, England. He later relocated to Los Angeles in the 1990s to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
With a diverse background in editing, graphic design, visual effects, and post-production, Wilkins has been actively involved in filmmaking for over two decades. His expertise has enabled him to bring his unique directing talents to feature films, television, and short-form content for both big and small screens.
Wilkins' feature film debut, "Splinter", was released in 2008 and received widespread critical acclaim. The film won six ScreamFest Awards, including Best Director and Best Picture, and received a Saturn Award nomination for Best Horror Film. It also garnered nominations for Best Horror Movie and Most Memorable Mutilation at the 2009 Spike TV Scream Awards.
" Splinter" received positive reviews from various publications, including The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, LA Times, New York Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Fangoria, Paper Magazine, At The Movies, The Times of London, The Daily Telegraph, USA Today, Variety, Ain't It Cool News, KCRW, LA Weekly, and numerous horror blogs. The film also appeared on over two dozen Best Of lists, including #1 horror movie of 2008 from AMC TV, and was featured in the 2014 documentary "The 50 Best Horror Movies You've Never Seen". The film maintains a Rotten Tomatoes 'Top Critics' score of 81% fresh.
In 2011, Wilkins made his television debut when he was selected by showrunner Jeff Davis to direct three episodes of the popular MTV series "Teen Wolf". He was later chosen by creator Ben Ketai to direct the entire third season of the action thriller "Chosen" for Sony/Crackle, which he also edited.
Throughout his career, Wilkins' films have received recognition at prestigious film festivals, including multiple Sundance Film Festival premieres. His notable credits include the quirky comedy "I Lost 20lbs In Two Months, Ask Me How" (2002),the Austin Film Festival audience award-winning dark comedy "Kidney Thieves" (2006),and the ScreamFest Award-winning thriller "Staring at the Sun" (2005).
Wilkins has also worked as an editor on several projects, including the multi-award-winning horror feature "Beneath", three seasons of Sony Crackle's "Startup", and two seasons of "Chosen". He later went on to direct the entire third season of the series.
