Thelma Leeds, a former singer and actress, was born Thelma Goodman in New York City. She began her career in opera, but it was her radio singing that caught the attention of RKO, leading to her contract and subsequent move to Hollywood in 1936. She was renamed Thelma Leeds and started with an uncredited role in the classic musical "Follow the Fleet" alongside Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
