Tamara Searle is a multidisciplinary performance maker and director, renowned for her innovative approach to live and digital performance. With a keen eye for the unconventional, she has collaborated with a diverse range of performers and sites, from shopping centers and rivers to mudflats, libraries, and forests. Her artistic endeavors have also taken her to various esteemed institutions, including Back to Back Theatre, InBetween Time - Bristol, National Theatre of Scotland, Theatre Thikwa Berlin, Festival Utrecht, and Milton Keynes International Festival.
As an independent artist, Tamara has co-created several projects with notable collaborators. Her work with Jackson Castiglione on Future Echoes, presented at Arts Centre Melbourne, showcased her ability to bring together diverse creative forces. Her collaborations with composer Christopher Harley on Homegrown, a project for the Victorian College of the Arts, and with Katerina Kokkinos Kennedy on a sound work for the Royal Botanic Gardens, have further demonstrated her capacity for innovative storytelling.
Tamara's writing and directing skills have also been showcased in film. Her project PRICE, nominated for a multicultural media award in 2015, features disabled artist Scott Price conducting interviews with individuals about provocation in art. Additionally, she co-created RADIAL, a collaborative filmmaking residency designed for vulnerable individuals to access performance and filmmaking technology. This groundbreaking initiative has been successfully implemented in Berlin, Scotland, and Geelong.
In the realm of live performance, Tamara has directed multiple iterations of The Democratic Set, which has been presented in Utrecht, Bristol, and Milton Keynes. Her work as an actor has also been notable, with principal roles in Stiff for Channel 7 opposite David Wenham in 2005 and as the principal character in Working Dog's mockumentary All Aussie Adventures - a parody of adventure TV, in 2006.
