Biography

Tamara Hernandez, a Canadian-born storyteller of Nicaraguan and Irish-Canadian descent, has navigated a complex upbringing to become a masterful weaver of tales that explore the human struggle to overcome adversity and find one's place in the world. Her unique blend of magical realism, science fiction, and dark comedy genres enables her to craft emotionally powerful stories that are both tragic and humorous.

One of her notable short films, The Slap, was selected for Critics' Week in Cannes and Sundance, and its global appeal has led to its distribution worldwide. Her feature-length film, Men Cry Bullets, earned the Best Narrative Feature award at SXSW and other prominent festivals, and its theatrical release spanned the United States.

In addition to her work in fiction, Hernandez has also directed two documentaries: Dial T for Torment, a project with Jimmy Kimmel, and The Chicano Collection, a collaborative effort with Cheech Marin. Her experience at Nantucket's Almanack Screenwriter Colony has also played a significant role in her development as a screenwriter.

After becoming a mother, Hernandez went on to create an educational series, Your Child Can Discover, which showcases her versatility as a writer, director, and producer. Her recent projects include the writing and direction of two shorts, Adelaida and Alienated, which demonstrate her continued dedication to storytelling and her ability to push the boundaries of her craft.
