Suraj was born and raised in the bustling metropolis of New Delhi, India, where he was surrounded by a loving family that would play a significant role in shaping his future. His mother, Shailaja Sharma, an economist by profession, and his father, Gokul Churai, a software engineer, instilled in him the importance of education and hard work. Suraj is the eldest of his three siblings, with a younger brother and sister who bring joy and companionship to his life.
Growing up, Suraj was exposed to the rich cultural heritage of his parents' roots, with his father hailing from Thalassery, Kerala, and his mother from Palakkad, Kerala. This unique blend of cultures would later influence his perspective and worldview.
In 2012, Suraj's life took an unexpected turn when he auditioned for the role of Pi in the critically acclaimed film Life of Pi. Initially, he was persuaded to attend the audition by his younger brother, but little did he know that this would be the start of his acting journey. Following his breakthrough performance in Life of Pi, Suraj returned to his studies, pursuing a degree in philosophy at St. Stephens College, Delhi, which is affiliated with the prestigious Delhi University.
