Subir Banerjee's journey began when he was just 8 years old, as he took on the iconic role of Apu in Satyajit Ray's timeless masterpiece, "Pather Panchali", released in 1955.
Twenty-five years later, in 1980, on the 25th anniversary of the film, "India Today" published an article titled "Pather Panchali: An Odyssey Revisited" on March 31st, which revealed that Banerjee, then 33 years old, had spent his adult life working as a millhand at an engineering factory in the suburbs.
Fast forward to July 3, 2006, when "India Today" published another article, which disclosed that Banerjee, now 60 years old, had retired five years prior from his position as a provident fund officer at an engineering firm.
Interestingly, Banerjee's wife, Madhuri, only discovered his connection to the world of cinema when they relocated to the outskirts of Kolkata, either after his retirement or earlier in their marriage.
