Biography

Stewart St John is an award-winning television writer, producer, composer, multimedia pioneer, and filmmaker who has dedicated his career to crafting engaging stories through memorable characters, intricate worlds, and empowering music across various platforms.

Growing up with a passion for animation, comic books, and music, Stewart began his career at Hanna-Barbera, where he was mentored by co-founder Joe Barbera, creator of The Flintstones and The Jetsons. He wrote the Fox Kids' series Tom & Jerry Kids, scored songs for the show, and later co-created a Hanna-Barbera short with Joe Barbera called DINO, which is currently on display at the Museum of Television & Radio in Beverly Hills.

Stewart went on to write some of the most beloved children's and family-friendly properties around the world, including 30 episodes of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, V.R. Troopers, Sabrina: The Animated Series, Marvel's The Incredible Hulk, Inspector Gadget, Seventeen Again, and more.

Stewart is a winner of the prestigious Humanitas Prize for Excellence in Screenwriting for his episode of Prince Valiant, which tackled the sensitive subject of child abuse. He was also a Young Artist Awards winner for his episode of ABC's Sabrina: The Animated Series, and his original feature film Seventeen Again was nominated in the category.

Marvel mastermind Stan Lee chose Stewart's episode of The Incredible Hulk as one of his 'favorite five' episodes for the DVD release, and Stewart's "Witch Switch" episode of Sabrina: The Animated Series was chosen by Kellogg's as a stand-alone DVD released in cereal boxes around the country.

Stewart was a pioneer in early digital storytelling as story editor and writer of the critically acclaimed online soap The Spot. He later created The Spot Wireless, the first mobile soap opera for Sprint vision-enabled phones, and crafted a cross-platform story with its web counterpart, considered a groundbreaking accomplishment at the time. He then created, wrote, and directed California Heaven, the first scripted digital series for AOL.

Stewart would later establish and oversee an online digital network featuring a lineup of original programming. In 2015, he teamed with partners Todd Fisher and Michael Plahuta to form Wonkybot Studios as an incubator for his creator-owned multimedia projects.

As predicted by Mr. Barbera when Stewart was first beginning his career, he is now creating a stable of his own exciting characters through Wonkybot Studios: the girl-power Tara Tremendous franchise, the supernatural Spooky Troop series, the uplifting The Owlsteins, and the super villain comedy The Dr. Epicopolis & 1102 Show of Shows. Stewart is also the creator, writer, director, and co-composer of the teen audio thriller series Origins Unknown and the upcoming Historynauts, and several other series in various stages of development.

As a composer, music producer, songwriter, and lyricist, and a voting member of the Recording Academy (GRAMMYS),Stewart infuses all of his original properties with songs and music. He adapted Tara Tremendous into a stage musical, co-composed 20 original songs with his music partner Michael Plahuta, and the show was performed as a live musical concert at 54 Below in NYC, starring Micky Dolenz (The Monkees),Annie Golden (Netflix' Orange Is The New Black),and a host of other Broadway stars.
