Steven Schub was born in Brooklyn, New York, but his upbringing was primarily shaped by his time in Berkeley and Piedmont, California. At the age of 16, he embarked on an artistic journey by attending the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, where he studied under the esteemed Annette Bening. Following high school, Schub spent the summer as a volunteer with the Israeli army, before enrolling at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. During his time at NYU, he studied at both the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute and the Stella Adler Conservatory, and even co-founded a short-lived theater company, "The Bullstoi Ensemble," with roommate Philip Seymour Hoffman and director Bennett Miller.
In his junior year, Schub took a break from his studies to explore his interest in religion and philosophy at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, where he founded the punk band "Jew2" and met Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle at a "Battle of the Bands" competition. After returning to the United States and graduating from NYU, Schub reunited with Pyle, who was impressed by his talent and subsequently quit Lynyrd Skynyrd to form the Afro-Celtic Yiddish Ska band "The Fenwicks" with Schub as the lead singer.
Within 72 hours and with just three rehearsals, "The Fenwicks" made their debut by opening for Foreigner and Billy Squier in front of 8,000 bewildered classic rock fans in Jacksonville's Metro Park. Schub has since continued to alternate between his successful career as an actor in film and television and his role as the lead singer for "The Fenwicks." He has starred in over 15 films, including the critically acclaimed Sony Pictures Classics film "Caught" (1996),directed by Robert M. Young, and has received rave reviews from national and international media outlets, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Siskel & Ebert.
Schub's filmography also includes "No Vacancy" (1999),"Morning" (2001),"Little Noises" (1991),and numerous television shows, such as "Sesame Street," "NYPD Blue," "Wanted," and "E-Ring." He has also played the role of a recurring guest star terrorist on Season Six of "24" and has guest-starred on several other television shows. "The Fenwicks" have released three nationally distributed CDs and have embarked on countless national tours, including performances at Town Hall on Broadway, the 2002 Toyota Comedy Festival, and the 2005 Vans Warped Tour.
