Steve Barr, a highly accomplished individual, relocated to New Zealand in 2010 after dedicating 16 years to the Hollywood system. Prior to his move, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting from the University of Southern California, where he honed his craft for two years before transitioning into writing and producing.
As a founding member of SoCal Film Group, a creative collective of writers, directors, producers, and actors, Steve was instrumental in producing over 50 short films that showcased a diverse range of styles and genres. These films received widespread recognition, screening at numerous prestigious film festivals, including the Austin Film Festival, where his film "Who's On First? - the Movie" won the online Audience Award. The films also gained exposure through screenings on cable channels AMC and Showtime, as well as at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, Los Angeles Downtown Film Festival, Silver Lake Film Festival, Shriekfest, and the Newport Beach Film Festival.
Through his affiliation with SoCal Film Group, Steve co-wrote and produced "Quiet," which was hailed as one of the top ten short films of the year by Film Threat magazine.
Steve's extensive industry experience has encompassed various roles, including working as a corporate suit for NBC Universal, VP Development for indie financier and production company SMASHfilms, an assignment screenwriter, and an independent producer. As a screenplay consultant, he has analyzed thousands of screenplays and delivered formal critiques. Additionally, Steve has lectured at prominent industry events, including the Screenwriter's Expo, StoryBoard, Scriptwrights, Northwest Writers Guild, and numerous institutions and organizations in both America and New Zealand.
