Biography

Stephen Mendel's illustrious career in the entertainment industry began at the tender age of eight, when he first started singing. His educational journey took him to Montreal, Canada, where he graduated from Bishop's University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama. This marked the start of his professional endeavors in theater, as he began working almost immediately after graduation.

His early success in theater paved the way for film and television roles, which soon followed. He made the bold move to Los Angeles and was quickly cast in the CBS TV series "Night Heat" (1985-1990),which was filmed in Toronto, Canada and ran for an impressive 96 episodes over five seasons. Mendel played the role of Detective Fred Carson, a character that would remain etched in the memories of audiences for years to come.

Following his stint on "Night Heat," Mendel went on to guest star in numerous television shows and appear in many feature films. He also took the opportunity to further his education, earning a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theater. During his time away from acting, he taught at California State University for several years, sharing his expertise with the next generation of performers.

Mendel's remarkable ability to transform himself from one role to the next has earned him the reputation of being a chameleon. He has played a wide range of characters, from good guys and bad, to scientists, doctors, lawyers, and judges. To achieve this, he is not afraid to experiment with his appearance, donning beards, mustaches, hairpieces, glasses, and more. His dedication to his craft is unwavering, and he has studied with many esteemed teachers to hone his skills.

One of Mendel's greatest strengths is his mastery of accents and dialects. He has performed voice work in animation, narration, video games, audio books, radio, and television commercials, showcasing his impressive range. In his free time, Mendel enjoys playing the guitar and singing, particularly folk music. He is also an avid practitioner of the obscure martial art of aki-jutsu, an enthusiast of skiing, and a certified scuba diving instructor.
