Biography

Since his graduation from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts in 2006, Stefán Hallur has worked as an actor, director, dramaturg and teacher with professional international and local representation in theater, film and television.

As an actor, he has portrayed a variety of main roles at the National Theater of Iceland, including Edward in KING LEAR, Lövborg in HEDDA GABLER, Macbeth in MACBETH, Dionysos in THE BACCHAE, Hans in Sofi Oksanen's PURGE, Fjalla- Eyvindur in FJALLA-EYVINDUR and The Master in THE MASTER AND MARGARITA.

He has also starred in various independent productions, both Icelandic and international, including Vesturports WOYZECK, Sokkabandiðs HÉR OG NÚ in Finland and Germany, and CDN Orléans (FRA) production of JULIUS CAESAR, in collaboration with ART (USA) in France and Colombia from 2010-2012.

Stefán Hallur has been featured in several foreign and domestic TV series and sitcoms, including SENSE8 for Netflix (USA),HERZEN AUF EIS and WEGENER PROJECT for ZDF (GER),and THE SOLVEIG KARLDOTTIR MYSTERIES for ARD (GER).

He has also received several award nominations for his performances, including a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Icelandic Film&TV Awards in 2010 and 2012, and a nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2014 at the Icelandic Theater Awards.

As a director, Stefán Hallur has directed and produced several plays and radio plays, including PENETRATOR and THE CENSOR by Anthony Neilson, THE UGLY ONE by Marius Von Mayenburg, MACBETH by William Shakespeare, and AFTER THE END by Dennis Kelly.

His own adaptation of Saint-Exuperys LE PETIT PRINCE at the National Theater in 2014 received critical acclaim in Iceland, and he has also directed and co-written ÞITT EIGIÐ LEIKRIT/YOUR OWN PLAY VOL1 & 2 for the National Theater of Iceland.

Stefán Hallur has won several awards for his work, including Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2017 for the National Theater of Icelands production of GOTT FÓLK and Best Supporting Role for CONSENT at the National Theater in 2019.

He has also won Best Radio Play at the Icelandic Theater Awards in 2017 for LIFUN, a 4-part series radio play at the National Broadcasting Corporation (RÚV).
