Sooraj Barjatya is a multifaceted Indian film personality, serving as a director, producer, and screenwriter. He is the chairman of the renowned production house, Rajshri Productions, which was founded by his grandfather Tarachand Barjatya in 1947.
Throughout his educational journey, Barjatya attended St. Mary's School in Mumbai and The Scindia School in Gwalior. Upon completing his studies, he began working on his debut film, Maine Pyar Kiya (1989),a project he collaborated on with his father.
Maine Pyar Kiya marked the debut of Salman Khan, and the film's success was unprecedented, earning seven Filmfare awards, including Best Film, Music Director, Male Debut, Female Debut, Music Director, Male Playback Singer, and Lyricist. The film holds the record for winning the maximum number of Filmfare awards.
Following the success of his first film, Barjatya continued to team up with Salman Khan for several high-grossing movies, including Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994) and Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1999).
Hum Aapke Hain Koun is the most commercially successful Indian film after Sholay (1975),having sold over seven crore tickets at the box office.
Barjatya's direction in Hum Aapke Hain Koun...! (1994) earned him the Filmfare best director award in 1995, as well as the Golden Lotus Award under the category Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment in 1995.
Some of his other notable films include Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon (2003),Vivah (2006),Ek Vivaah... Aisa Bhi (2008),Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015),and Uunchai (2022),which marked his return to directing after a seven-year hiatus.
