Sonia Monroy biography
Sonia Monroy was born and raised in the vibrant city of Barcelona, Spain, alongside six siblings, and would later follow in her parents' footsteps into the entertainment industry. She is the daughter of Virtudes Casals, a renowned actress, and Perfecto Monroy, a talented actor and opera singer. Under the illustrious theatre Liceo in Barcelona, where her father was performing plays, she began her journey as an actress at the tender age of six, taking on the role of the Geisha's son in the opera Madame Butterfly. She continued to hone her craft, taking acting and singing classes at the Conservatory of the Liceo for an impressive 10 years.
In the early 1990s, she started appearing on television as an actress in the comedy TV show Força Barça. Her breakthrough role came in 1998 when she was hired by the renowned producer José Luis Moreno as a comedian for his TV series Maravillas diez y pico. In 2003, she embarked on a new venture, creating her band Sex Bomb, which achieved widespread success with the album Ven. The hit single "Ven Ven Ven" propelled the album to multimillion-unit sales, earning a coveted Gold record.
In 2011, she starred in the horror movie Serie-b, directed by Richard Vogue and produced by Olwyn Films. In 2013, Sonia made the bold decision to relocate to Los Angeles, where she produced her own reality TV show, Sonia in Hollywood, interviewing numerous celebrities and securing the opportunity to attend The Oscars. Her dedication to her craft has led her to take on various roles, including starring in the feature film Less than a Whisper, directed by the acclaimed American horror director Francis Xavier and produced by Metropolis Pictures Entertainment. As a result of her portrayal of Ms. Usher, Sonia was nominated for "Best Actress" at the Latin awards Vive Latino America.
In 2016, she took on a new challenge, writing, directing, and starring in her own comedy film, Hollywood Dream, produced by her own film company, Monroy's Films Productions. Her ambition is to continue growing as a talented actress and movie director in America.
