Sol, a multi-award-winning producer/director, has made a significant impact in the world of television documentaries, taking home six Royal Television awards and earning two BAFTA nominations. His passion for storytelling has led him down two distinct paths: factual and fiction.
As the founder of Hurricane Films, Sol has overseen productions ranging from shorts to international feature films, with budgets reaching up to $15 million. His early career began as a marine engineer, but after a stint at sea, he transitioned to the creative arts, working as a stills photographer.
After completing a 16mm short course at the National Film School, Sol shifted his focus to documentary filmmaking as a producer/director. His documentary singles and series have taken him to diverse locations, including the deck of the world's largest aircraft carrier, shooting out of Pearl Harbour, and the deserts of the Middle East.
As an independent feature film producer, Sol has produced eight films, including three Terence Davies films: Of Time and The City, Sunset Song, and A Quiet Passion. All of these films premiered at prestigious festivals. His independent feature film credits also include A PRAYER BEFORE DAWN, SOMETIMES AWAYS NEVER, and THE LAST BUS.
Recent projects include executive producing and directing two feature documentaries, acting as second unit director on The Last Bus, and directing EPKs for feature films, such as Dali Land with Sir Ben Kingsley, Sometimes Always Never with Bill Nighy, and The Last Bus with Tim Spall.
Sol is a regular visiting lecturer at Salford University's MA Documentary program, Sheffield Hallam's Producers Summer School, and Liverpool John Moores Film School. He is a member of Directors UK and BAFTA and sits on the board of The Open Eye Photography Gallery.
As a European passport holder, Sol has the ability to work anywhere within the EU.
