Skelton Barnaby Knaggs was born on June 27, 1911, in the Hillsborough district of Sheffield, England. He was a man of the theater, learning his craft at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. After graduating, he became a Shakespearean actor, appearing on stage in Shakespeare's Cymbeline.
