Person Biography:
Shobna Gulati is a British actress, writer, and dancer born in Oldham, Lancashire, to parents of Hindu Indian descent. She holds a degree in Arabic and Middle Eastern politics from the University of Manchester.
Gulati's early appearances include dancing in the video for Boy George's 1991 single "Bow Down Mister" and later receiving excellent reviews for her work in Victoria Wood's BBC sitcom Dinnerladies as a main character.
She has appeared in various TV shows, including Coronation Street, EastEnders, Loose Women, Call My Bluff, Have I Got News for You, The Weakest Link, Russian Roulette, Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes, Soapstar Superstar, and Jackanory.
Gulati has also appeared in short films, such as Shadowscan, which won a Bafta Award, and Akshay, which she produced for the Motiroti's 60x60 Secs.
She has been a part of several stage productions, including the hit play Girls Night by Louise Roche and the UK tour of Pretend You Have Big Buildings at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.
Gulati has been married to architect Anshu Srivastava, with whom she divorced in May 1994.
