Biography

North Shields native Prendergast embarked on his educational journey at Collingwood School, located on Oswin terrace, before furthering his studies at Norham High and Tynemouth Sixth Form College. He then pursued higher education at Bretton Hall College, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors.

As a student, Prendergast penned his first play, Potter's Wheel, which garnered an impressive five awards at the 1980 National Student Drama Festival, including the coveted Best New Play honor. The play was subsequently presented at the prestigious Old Vic as part of an NSDF showcase season.

Prendergast is married to Niki Winterson, a talent management expert from Wintersons Talent Management, and together they share a blended family, including stepson Domenic and daughter Molly. They reside in London.

Throughout his career, Prendergast has worn multiple hats, serving as an actor and playwright in residence for Northumberland Theatre Company before joining the BBC Radio Drama Company. He was also a founding member of Kenneth Branagh's Renaissance Theatre Company.

His impressive repertoire has earned him a slew of accolades, including a Sony Award, a Writers Guild Award, and a Time Out Award.

In a departure from his usual dramatic roles, Prendergast took on the part of Sarah the Cook in the 2010 pantomime Dick Whittington at the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith, directed by Steve Marmion.
