Biography

Warren's parents, a policeman and an administrator at the Tuskegee Institute, instilled in her a deep appreciation for literature and theater from a young age.

Growing up, Warren was surrounded by the performing arts, laying the foundation for her future pursuit of acting.

After leaving Auburn University, Warren made the bold decision to leave behind a traditional career path and instead chase her dreams of becoming an actress.

However, her early days as a struggling artist were marked by financial struggles, with Warren even being forced to live out of a car for a couple of months.

Despite these challenges, Warren persevered and eventually landed her breakthrough role as Aretha, the mother of Ray Charles, in the 2004 biopic Ray.

In the years leading up to the Oscars, Entertainment Weekly went to great lengths to advocate for Warren's recognition as Best Supporting Actress, fearing that she would be overlooked in favor of her more high-profile co-stars, Kerry Washington and Regina King.

Unfortunately, the Academy failed to recognize Warren's talents, and she was overlooked in the nominations.

Despite this setback, Warren has continued to maintain a low profile, preferring to avoid the spotlight and instead focus on her craft.

Despite her anonymity, Warren has expressed a sense of contentment with her decision to remain under the radar, prioritizing her art over fame.
