Shana Hagan is a renowned documentary cinematographer with over 25 years of experience in the industry. Her impressive career has seen her collaborate with some of the most distinguished filmmakers, including Michael Apted, Jessica Yu, Morgan Neville, Lauren Greenfield, and Rory Kennedy, among others. She is a member of several prestigious organizations, including The American Society of Cinematographers, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, The International Cinematographers Guild, The International Documentary Association, and The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Throughout her career, Shana has worked on numerous Oscar and Emmy-winning documentaries, as well as scripted television content. Her documentary work includes the Academy Award-winning BREATHING LESSONS, Academy Award-nominated WALK RUN CHA-CHA, and 19 Sundance Film Festival selections, including GENERATION WEALTH, QUEEN OF VERSAILLES, TAYLOR SWIFT: MISS AMERICANA, and SHAKESPEARE BEHIND BARS. She has also shot THE KINGMAKER, a documentary profiling the former First Lady of the Philippines Imelda Marcos, which premiered at the Venice, Telluride, and Toronto film festivals in 2019.
Shana's television credits include shooting four seasons of NBC's PARKS AND RECREATION, serving as the 2nd Unit DP on the first season of the Netflix reboot of ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, and working on commercial spots for various brands, including KOHL'S, ARMY, DISNEY, KODAK, VERIZON, and others.
In addition to her documentary work, Shana is currently working on scripted projects, including the critically acclaimed series SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE for HBO and Fox's half-hour docu-comedy WELCOME TO FLATCH.
Shana's recent documentary work includes two projects with Michael Apted, the US portions of his long-running documentary series 63UP and the third installment of his series MARRIED IN AMERICA. She has also completed a documentary feature, THE CONDUCTOR, which follows Maestra Marin Alsop as she travels the world working with orchestras in Baltimore, New York, Vienna, Sao Paolo, and London.
In addition to her work in the film industry, Shana is committed to giving back to her community. She has traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to teach Master Class Workshops to young Ethiopian filmmakers through the US State Department's American Film Showcase. She has also served as a mentor at Newport Film's inaugural Documentary Cinematography Lab in Newport, RI, and has been a guest lecturer at several universities, including USC, LMU, CalArts, Emerson, Chapman, NYU, and Canon.
